Focus Magazine Said - "The web was made for this"™ - Jan '97 |
This page is dedicated to Sharks, and to the people who have increased our understanding of them through ignoring the advice of those more "knowledgable" and providing us with more information, as well as those who have publicised sharks to dispel their jaws image. People like : Hans & Lotte Hass, Jacques Yves Cousteau, Rodney Fox, Ron & Valery Taylor, Sonny Gruber, Jose Castro, Xavier Maniguet, eugenie Clark, Ian Fergusson and many others.
This may sound like an over dramatisation but in the 50s and 60s it was considered dangerous to go diving because of Sharks, then in the 70s night diving was considered a maniacs' sport again because of the "shark menace".
These pages are also dedicated to education. My main aim has changed since I started these pages. Originally the aim was Information and Conservation. Now the purpose of these pages are :
These pages will cover items such as shark habitats, physiology, the danger to sharks from "man attack" and something about shark attack on man, because this does happen though not to the extent the media would have us believe.
Please excuse spelling and punctuation. I'm a final year engineering student and don't have time to go through everything. Nor do I have a spellchecker as I write the scripts direct in a simple Unix texteditor.
If you have read this page and found it interesting, informative or even crap, please email me and tell me. It is really gratifying to see emails come in from accross the world.
If you are using the information for education, e.g. School, Teachers using this etc. I would love to hear from you. My father is a Schools Inspector with HM Government in UK and likes to use the page as an example of the Web working for education.
